Revelator: Petunias

Revelator Coffee Company is based in Birmingham, Alabama. The Petunias blend has to be one of my favourites so far! It has notes of cherry and chocolate and it's perfectly balanced with a little bit of cream. I will definitely need to add this one to my queue again!

Fun Fact: Revelator created a program for baristas entering the competition circuit that sponsored five new talents in its first year.

I'm such a fan of dark nails year round. I had some fun adding some black tips to this holographic base coat by OPI!

Augie's Coffee: House Blend

Our latest and greatest Trade order is from Augie's Coffee in Redlands California. It's a family owned roastery by father-son duo Andy and Austin Amento and has been operational since 2009.

This is an excellent brew and is perfectly balanced with a bit of cream. It's medium bodied with traditional base hints of sweet vanilla and ripe fruit. It's another perfectly "classic" coffee in my opinion and I look forward to waking up in the morning to brew this!!

Fun Fact: in 2016, co-owner Austin Amento won the US Cup Tasters Championship and barista Blair Smith placed fourth at the US Brewers Cup.

Black and Gold Tips

I love black nails but sometimes it's fun to just add a simple black accent! I loved this black and gold inspiration photo I found online on Pinterest and tried to recreate it myself!

My version is a little harder to see, but I'm still happy with how it turned out!

Red Rooster: Waxwing

Our latests Trade Coffee delivery was Waxwing by Red Rooster Coffee.

Rose approached her then fiancé, Hayen about supplying coffee for her Floyd, Virginia cafe. The two began roasting from a small space in the back of her mother's bookstore. This is a family run company with strong principles of sustainability and gender equality since 2010. They have onsite childcare available for all 32 of its (majority female) employees.

The Waxwing blend is a medium dark blend with a traditional base and hints of earthiness and berry fruit. I liked it but didn't love it. Something was missing here and I just couldn't put my finger on it. Either way, we drank it all up and played with the proportions each time we brewed a pot!

Fun Fact: This roaster has its own licensed onsite childcare for employees, called Yellow Hen.

Klatch Coffee: Old World Vienna Blend

I'm so excited to write about this coffee! This has been my favourite selection so far!! Klatch is located in Racho Cucamonga, California and was established in 1993. The roastmaster and green buyer, Mike Perry, has a chemical engineering degree so real science goes into this teams award-winning coffee!

This coffee is such a classic in my opinion. It's rich, robust and full bodied with hints of spice balanced with dark chocolate and brown sugar. I love everything about this one and am so temped to add it to my queue again sometime soon!! I absolutely love that Trade Coffee lets you see what is scheduled for your next delivery, and then it allows you to adjust.  Can't wait to get this blend again in the future!

Fun Fact: The word Klatch means a social gathering, especially for coffee and conversation.

Irving Farm: Guadalupe

This week's Trade Coffee delivery was the Guadalupe blend by Irving Farm in New York! The roaster opened in 1996 in  Hudson Valley by David Elwell and Steve Leven and has been a pioneer in paving the way with industry-leading grower relationships and clean practices designed to use less fuel.

The Guadalupe is sweet and smooth. It's a beautifully balanced coffee with medium body and has a traditional base with hints of citrus and milk chocolate.

Fun Fact: Irving Farm is named after this roaster's original Manhattan café on Irving Place.

PT's Coffee: Flatlander Signature Blend

Our first Trade order arrived! Firstly, I was so impressed with the packaging and the nice box it came in! Trade also gives clear instructions on how to dispose of the packaging ie what's recyclable, what's compostable etc. I also loved that it came with a description of the coffee and why they picked it for us (based on our profile!).

We received the Flatlander Signature Blend by PT's Coffee, a Kansas roastery. The coffee has a traditional base with notes hints of caramel and nuts with a hint of chocolate in the finish. It's a medium body and takes well to cream. I liked the nutty finish but there was a bit of a sweet aftertaste which didn't make it my favourite!

Fun Fact: This roaster's co-founder helped found the United States Barista Competition in 1999.

How I'm Keeping Busy During the Quarantine

Hi Friends,

Never in my life did I think I would experience something as crazy, scary and unnerving as this pandemic. I'm sure many of you are also experiencing some anxiety about the unknown, so I'm sharing with you how I'm keeping busy during the quarantine and how I'm trying my best to stay positive and keep my mind occupied!

1. Exercise - I've been doing Shaun T's Insanity program

2. Re-organize - Go through your closet, cupboards, pantry etc and do some spring cleaning!

3. Deep Clean - Get that oven sparkling!

4. Video Chat - Best way to keep in touch with family or re-connect with old friends

5. Nail Art - Perfect time to try new nail designs and colours! See some of my latest designs here.

6. Bullet Journal - Let that creative side come out!

7. Music - Dust off the old instruments or just have a dance part in your living room!

8. Board Games - Bananagrams has been our "go to" during this quarantine!

9. Cook and Bake - Banana bread, sour dough loaves, simple pasta? We've all gotta eat!

10. Stream Broadway Shows or Opera Shows - Check out Broadway HD for a free 7 day trial!

Last but not least, it's totally 100% ok to not do anything as well! We are all different and we all respond to life's challenges in different ways. If your preferred coping mechanism is to veg out to some good shows on TV, then you do you!

Stay safe everyone!

San Francisco + Oakland

I had such a great long weekend (MLK) visiting my college bestie who recently moved to Oakland! She took me around all of her favourite neighbourhood spots and we also explored San Francisco! Some of the highlights included running around Lake Merrit, visiting Berkley's campus, eating at the famous Chez Panisse, trying out new coffee shops (of course), touring around Fisherman's Wharf and catching the sunset at Mission Park. I also got to catch up with so many other friends who made their way to the Bay area over the past few years!
