Fire Island, NY

One of my favourite things about living in New York City is that we can easily escape to the beach or go up north on a hike whenever we want! The areas surrounding the city offer so much more than just the hustle and bustle of Times Square or snazzy restaurants with overpriced cocktails. We decided to take a Friday off work to explore Fire Island which is just off Long Island!

It was a bit of a trek to get to, but after an hour long train ride followed by a ferry ride, we finally got to Ocean Beach where we spent the day swimming and relaxing in the sand! The island is very narrow so you can get to the beach quickly but it's quite long with multiple beaches so I did some research ahead of time to find the right beach for us. Ocean Beach was so cute, and had lots of great waterfront restaurants and bars as well as some shops. We had an amazing lunch (lobster roll and muscles) at Rachel's Restaurant and Bakery topped off by ice cream from the general store.

My favourite part about the island is that vehicles are prohibited and all you see are pedestrians and bicyclists on the streets! This would be such a great spot to rent a summer home and enjoy beach time with family or friends! It's a great idea for a day off or a stay-cation and I hope to go back again with a group of friends!
